Late for the umpteenth time ,
I hurried,
towards the daily train I took,
Impatiently ,
I waited for its doors to open, as it came trundling,
then halted and shook .
Elbows jutting out,
I was ready for the battle
that I knew was sure to ensue,
Even the others were similarly prepared,
my competition,
in multi-coloured hue.
Hostilities hung low as each was vying,
For a vacant seat, the other was eyeing.
Denying a chance to the ones inside,
to vacate the premises first,
We try to get in at the risk of being cursed.
After pushing and shoving,
only some managed to procure,
The very best thing behind those sliding doors.
No consideration for women ,
no respect for the old,
Once the bottom is perched,
may horrors unfold.
You may give dirty looks,
you may appear subdued,
No one will obey the insignia which says “Please give this seat to someone who needs it more than you.”
People enter, people leave,
all you care for is the ‘throne’,
Ever on the lookout for a place to sit,
looking for a place to rest your groan.
We all have destinations, we all have some place to go,
But never a smile is exchanged, not a single ‘hello!’
Humans have come a long way no doubt, to get to here and now,
Travelled through time, travelled through space, as much as technology allowed.
But humanity is slowly receding,
as we move forward today,
When failing to keep up with the times,
is giving up along the way.
‘Finally!’ I think as someone gets up,
Only to realise I have reached my stop.
